Motion

Motion

As a complimentary skillset alongside design and illustration, I always pushed myself to incorporate motion into my work. Whether I was making frame-by-frame through Photoshop or pursuing certificates to learn Advanced Motion Graphics, I’ve been constantly curious in learning skills outside of my own art practice.

BLEND3015 MOTION DESIGN

One of my projects while completing my certificate in Advanced Motion Design by School of Motion. The assignment was to create a motion video promoting a futuristic design festival. From storyboarding phases to the final animation, I studied and applied theories around sine waves, natural patterns and designing visuals/sounds with the golden ratio in mind.

OceanX Shorts animations

Teaming up with the production team at OceanX, I helped with the art direction and illustrations/animations for their social shorts. As the sole creative, I helped format the layouts and compositions of each scene to be compatible for cross-platform viewing, while keeping the animations versatile for reuse in multiple formats. The shorts garnered over 400k views on YouTube alone. The Bigfin squid episode was also submitted by OceanX for consideration at the Jackson Wild Film Festival.

underknown gif animations

To help celebrate achievements and milestones for employees at Underknown, I illustrated and animated a set of branded GIFs that were easily sharable and specifically compatible with LinkedIn. I illustrated each frame on Photoshop and created the GIFS with After Effects. Whether someone was starting a new position at Underknown or celebrating a work anniversary, these GIFs made it easier for employees to feel a sense of belonging and pride.

LINDT CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY ANIMATION

The team at Lindt reached out for a stop-motion animation for their upcoming Christmas Giveaway. I came up with the concept of the Lindt TEDDYs walking through a small winter village, bringing them to life and spreading holiday cheer. From art directing to storyboarding to shooting and editing, I was given full creative control to create a unique and sweet scene that would engage their followers new and old. (Fun fact: I never did a stop-motion before this! I had to MacGyver a lot of it, and even used my old skateboard to stabilize my camera!) The giveaway became one of their best performing posts on Instagram.

This became an ongoing series that helped increase ROAR’s engagement on Instagram.

ROAR ORGANIC CANADA ANIMATIONS

As an Intermediate Graphic & Motion Designer at Arnold Street Media, I was tasked with designing ROAR Organics social animations. Taking advantage of the social reels format, I designed most of their animations to loop seamlessly. To achieve the best result in a tight timeline, I kept the animations 2D while manipulating other assets (like the shaker or the shapes) to feel 3D.

EDUCATION+ ANIMATED POSTS

To increase engagement for Education+’s new initiatives, I created various animated posts with After Effects to bring their existing content and illustrations to life. Each animated post was adapted for Facebook, Instagram and Instagram stories.

Initial sketchbook piece I made while watching the movie “Dear Ex”.

I started on Photoshop by drawing each frame and drafting the frame rate with After Effects.

MARLBORO ANIMATION

A self-directed motion graphic animation. Inspired by a scene from “Dear Ex” by Mag Hsu and Hsu Chih-yen, I turned my a small piece from my sketchbook into a frame-by-frame animation. In an effort to develop my digital design skills, I turned the animation into a billboard-styled motion animation for Marlboro.
